Submitted to Tameside Council in December, the plans depict 64 new dwellings that could be built on the brownfield site situated on Cartwright Street and Talbot Road.
Before any work on the properties can start, the demolition of the mid 20th century red brick building and surrounding structures that surround the site must first take place.
Once completed, the properties, set to be built by Wainhomes, would consist of a range of 3 – 4 bedroom detached, semi-detached, mews and linked townhouses:

Of the 64 dwellings split across the 2.19 hectares site, 17 of the properties would feature 3 bedrooms, whilst the remaining 47 properties would feature 4 bedrooms.
All the properties would have their own private garden space alongside a 200% parking allocation. The roadways throughout the development would feature traffic calming measures such as pinch points, raised tables, ramps and vaned surface treatments.
Pedestrian access to the development would be permitted via a walkway situated by the Ashton-Under-Lyne bound bus stop on Talbot Road, whilst vehicle access will be permitted through an access point on Cartwright Street.
Street planting would be incorporated to add visual interest to focal areas throughout the development. as well as lining the pedestrian link to aid legibility.
Concept art of the proposed dwellings and floorplans.
The plots fronting Talbot Road would provide a strong building line to replicate the demolished factory, surrounding housing typologies and align with retained industrial units further along Talbot Road.
All intermediate plot boundaries would be divided by a 1.8 metre high timber fencing with timber posts and panels to satisfy the security and privacy of each dwelling. The key boundaries along Cartwright Street and Talbot Road as well as the pedestrian link would be uplifted with 1.2m ball-top railings to provide a secure but visually appealing division between public and private areas.

The target date for the application’s decision is 13 April 2018.
